Multi-Day Sea Kayak Tour – West Crete

Transfer from Chania airport (if required) to your accommodation in Kissamos. Briefing with information about the coming days, followed by a welcome dinner all together in the evening.

Setting off from the long white sand beach of Falasarna, for your first adventure you will discover the renowned beach of Balos. Heading North from Falassarna along the striking coastline you will be greeted by immense towering cliffs which fall away to small bays and finally the blue lagoon of Balos. You'll have time to enjoy the beach here, swim, have a snack and explore before heading back to Falassarna. On the way back, the scenery again is dramatic, the cliffs are steep and imposing. On the other side, we have the open sea. We take breaks to take it all in, and to admire the amazingly clear water below. There are small bays, rock cracks, small caves along the way. Towards the end of the route, we paddle over a shipwreck that's easily visible from the surface. After landing, we satiate our appetite with a hearty meal in a local taverna overlooking beautiful Falasarna bay.

On this day we launch from the pink sand of Elafonissi beach and we paddle East. We are in the beautiful bay of Kedrodassos, the juniper tree forest. We visit tropical looking shores and enjoy the rich sea life, with Africa just behind the horizon. After some paddling we beach in the secluded bay of Viena, so hidden and sheltered that the water never ruffles. We can enjoy a break in this quiet paradise, have a snack and look around the columns of the ancient sanctuary half-drowned in the water. On our way back, we marvel at the clarity of the sea and snorkel over the seagrass meadows. We play amongst the shallow rocks while watching the bright sand dunes. Eventually we get back to Elafonissi, wondering whether we just took a trip to a faraway island, or is this the old World?

Today we explore the wild West coast of Crete. We set off from one of the many secluded beaches. As we paddle, along the way we discover remote beaches, we navigate through shallow rocks and we admire the rugged landscape. Thanks to the sit-on-top kayaks, we can jump in any time to snorkel by the most remote capes, under the rocky cliffs or in the natural sea lagoons. We pass natural coastal sea lakes, where the cool fresh water springs from under the earth and mixes with the salty sea water creating otherworldly light games. There are unique Theofrastus palm trees lining the shore. This is a palm tree native to Crete, found only on the very Southern fringes of Europe. We finish the exploration to beach and enjoy a good meal at a village taverna where every dish is fresh and has real taste.

We enjoy the flexibility of the sit-on-top kayaks as we explore small bays and beaches, rock formations and sea caves along your way. We will see soaring cliffs, turquoise clear waters, deep gorge sea exits and plenty of opportunities for snorkel stops as we go. We can have a snack break in the shade of Crocodile rock. After a few hours paddling and making the most of the sea adventure, we arrive in the remote sea-side village of Agia Roumeli, which is only accessible by boat or with a long hike. Here we will have a snack, a cool drink and then we can go for a refreshing swim in the Lybian sea with a backdrop of the highest mountains on the island. Our itinerary ends here, in the traditional village of Agia Roumeli. Your last night's accommodation is not included in the package pricing, as from this point, there are a number of options available. We can assist you in choosing accommodation for your last night, and on request book it for you. 1) Stay overnight in Agia Roumeli (a perfect starting point to hike the famous gorge of Samaria the following day!) 2) Return with us via ferry from Agia Roumeli to the town of Sougia, and onwards by car either to Chania or Kissamos. We will transfer your to your chosen accommodation in any of these three towns or the surrounding area. Finally, it is time for us to part ways, leaving you with fantastic memories as you either continue your holiday or return to your home.
