Garfish in Kissamos

Shallow water fish: snorkelling in Kissamos

In the last couple of days we have been swimming in Viglia beach, near Kissamos.

There are shallow rocks just by the shore, and some more rocks a bit further out.

The water is still warm and beautifully clear even with the West wind, and we are now into October.

We saw plenty of tiny fish of many different species just near the shore: a microcosmos of fish biodiversity in 1m of water!

We saw various species of sea breams, grey mullets, rainbow wrasses, the usual dense shoals of the Lessepsian Siganus, very small sea bass, a moray eel, a tiny octopus, garfish. All a couple of steps from the shore!
