Cycle easily to Balos beach to admire the pink sand, turquoise water, stunning colours and shallow lagoon
Overview
An E-bike ride to the unreal colours of Balos lagoon.
Ride an E-bike to the lagoon of Balos.
Good for those who want to visit this stunning beach the natural way and want to enjoy the off-road ride along the peninsula and the spectacular views.
We start from Kissamos on flat ground along the paved road towards the harbour.
We turn off and pass some sandy coves in the corner of the bay.
Then we reach the traditional village of Kalyviani. The road becomes a track, but our attention is taken by the emerald and turquoise colours in the sea next to the road just below us.
The road is always wide but starts climbing steadily, sometimes more steeply. We take our time and admire the bay on the side.
Following the wild contours and rugged landscape, we get to the top where we park our bikes. We take the path going down to Balos. After a few minutes, we are greeted by an amazing spectacle of light and colour, with a panoramic view of the lagoon, the sandy peninsula, Gramvousa island and the rocky cliffs all together in one place.
We descend the steep rock steps all the way to the beach, and walk on the pink sand.
We go for a swim in the shallow, clear water or just enjoy the place.
Then we make our way back. The breaks we take as we walk up the path give us another chance to marvel at the panorama.
We get back to the bikes and ride easily along the same rocky track, then back to Kissamos.
