Overview

A walk visiting Kissamos hills among old Byzantine churches.

  • Difficulty: easy, some uphill
  • Terrain: mostly wide country tracks

In this walk you explore the inland hills above  Kissamos.

The walk starts a 20 minute drive from Kissamos, in a tiny village by the ruins of an original Byzantine church.

Start walking uphill on wide track in the countryside, among olive groves, overlooking deep valleys, where you have a spectacular view on some of the local gorges.
Through the Mediterranean vegetation you reach the crest and walk over to the other side for some downhill walking.
Visit a tiny chapel with old frescoes and walk through a traditional old village.
Stop for a break at a panoramic point with breathtaking views on Kissamos bay and the sea below.
Close the circle with some up and downhills, and return to your starting point in the shade of the plane trees.

Walking shoes or sandals, trainers also fine.

To be able to walk for approx. 2 hours on country tracks.
