Kayaking in Falasarna

Kayaking in Falasarna bay

On this late summer day we rented some sit-on-top kayaks in Kissamos and headed out to Falasarna.

With Les, John, Jade and Callum we stayed around the Northern part of the bay.

First we set course towards Limpet island, and we had some fun crossing between the rocks. We felt the sudden change between the windy, mostly flat inner side and the higher swell but calmer conditions on the outer side of the island.

We pressed on looking at Gramvousa island and Balos in the distance. We steered inland hoping to find respite from the wind as we re-entered the bay. We were surprised to find that the wind had turned and we were completely exposed! Still, while some of us were holding the kayaks, the rest went for a snorkel around the WWII shipwreck.

In the end we paddled into the wind to get back to the starting point on the beach, after a fun afternoon of kayaking.
