We went out snorkelling from one of our favourite spots near Kissamos. Shallow rocky reefs, flat sea surface, light games in the water, fish playing hide and seek with us. We spotted sea breams. A moray eel. Damselfish. A small grouper. A shiny amberjack. We had a good morning under the sea.
We had heard the road to Menies beach, an extremely remote and beautiful cove, had been recently redone. With Marco, we needed to check it out for ourselves. We knew it would be a challenge. This road goes along the peninsula of Rodopo, between Kolymbari and Kissamos in West Crete, for about 20Km, almost completely […]
In the last couple of days we have been swimming in Viglia beach, near Kissamos. There are shallow rocks just by the shore, and some more rocks a bit further out. The water is still warm and beautifully clear even with the West wind, and we are now into October. We saw plenty of tiny […]
We have been spotting lionfish for a few weeks now on the West and South coast of Crete. Today, we saw 3 by the WWII shipwreck in Falasarna. We also saw two triton shells, one live and one just the shell. A good day out in the sea in this beautiful corner of West Crete.
We went on a snorkelling tour around the WWII shipwreck near Falasarna today. It’s the end of September, and the sea is very warm. See some photos below.

Then we rode the panoramic hairpin bends overlooking Kissamos bay back on the old road, took a break at the traditional […]

First we set course towards Limpet island, and we had some fun crossing between the rocks. We felt the sudden change between the […]

Besides some of our usual friends, like the Cretan parrotfish, various types of sea breams and wrasses, damselfish, red mullets and others, we had a couple of pretty cool sightings. One with a very big fish, a leerfish […]
