A winter paddle to introduce some friends to our on sit-on-top kayaks
The Cretan winter keeps giving us spring days, and we keep taking advantage.
This weekend, we explored the beautiful rugged coastline between Falasarna beach and Sfinari, along Crete West coast.
We had zero wind, sun and pretty good conditions. A nice rocking swell, more than half a metre, which did prevent us from getting too close to the rocks.
We marvelled at the impressive vertical cliffs and the super clear water. A glimpse of a hidden cave, with an entrance low enough that the waves were swelling and covering the entire small gap. Another crack in the rock were the sea was calmer and the light comes down from an opening on the rocky roof.
Some of us took a dip in the crisp water around the point just before Sfinari bay. We swam over the shelf and an underwater vertical wall. Among the foamy rocks at the intersection between sea, sky and earth.
The break came on the end of Kokkina Gremna beach, red cliffs and sea rocks around us.
Sitting on the pebbles, in the sun, we picked our snacks surrounded by the wild nature.
The route finished at the small secluded harbour in Sfinari. We landed with our kayaks among the few local fishing boats and waved a see you later at the sea.
