An Ebike ride with friends to the forests in Sirikari, Kissamos
Winter storms in Crete have brought a lot of water.
We set out on a ride with our Ebikes to the remote village of Sirikari.
The rivers are bursting with water as we haven’t seen them in a long time.
The day is warm though, hot winds blow fiercely from the African desert, bringing sand that blurs the skies.
The ride has some steep slopes. We see the pink almond bloom against an unusual grey background.
A stop for drinking new water at the spring in Tsikalaria.
After climbing a wall dressed as a road, we descend into the forest.
The chestnut trees are barren, otherworldly wood sculptures. The plane trees line the plump streams.
The holm oaks keep their bright green, neither winter chill nor Saharan air intimidate their shiny leaves.
We stop in a clearing in the forest. Break out a snack. The misty air gives an ethereal atmosphere.
Coming back to Kissamos, we get gravity and wind in the same direction, a double push for a crazed descent.
Fast we get off our rides and return to our lives.
