Crete Mountains
Crete is an island of rugged beauty also thanks to the mountains covering it on all sides.
In the West the Lefka Ori, or White Mountains dominate the landscape with peaks above 2,000m of altitude.
Snow covers the tops half of the year, and the landscapes vary between barren rock deserts at the tops to unique cypress and chestnut forests at lower levels.
